#5 | GSH AudioBlog

On April 19, 2000, Gil Scott-Heron appeared on a BBC television interview show called HARD TALK. The interview is fascinating as Gil gets asked point blank about his drug issues. And its fascinating in how brilliant a man Gil is no matter his state of mind, body, and voice. This AudioBlog shares the full twenty-four minute interview. Good stuff.

To listen, I recommend you download the following mp3 filed (right click on ‘#5 GSH AudioBlog’ and ‘SAVE AS’) and then play it off your computer.

This was an interesting and sad interview. I am writing a blog on GHS also. From an entirely different perspective. It hurts me to see him in this condition. He’s still articulate and on point on most issues during this interview. I also think that we could use some of his insight now. I would love to know what he would have to say about America in 20007.

” Thank You ” Much Your One of The Greatest!!! Do You Know How Gil’s

Doing? I was Looking for his website and was Blessed with Yours.

don’t be sad, dl. i found this in a review of “reflections” on amazon:

Americans are living the consequences of what Mr. Scott-Heron warned of more than twenty years ago.

    “Mandate, my ass”

“What has happened is that, in the last twenty years America has changed from a producer to a consumer”

“We used to be a producer … and now we are consumers, finding it difficult to understand”

“Natural resources and minerals will change your world”

Unfortunately, most available versions of this song cut the extended outro, the survival mantra :

“this ain’t really your life; it ain’t nothing’ but a movie”

i’ve been recently adding this video and the lyrics to different blogs on the economy, given that he was well ahead of the curve on the demise of an over-debted, overburdened economy that relied on trickle-down, laissez-faire economics to get theirs.

i also just read part of an interview that he did for the voice, in which he mentioned that ou don’t get to be his age without some damage — i paraphrase. my guess is that, no disrespect, you are a young person, and will only understand his trials as you age.

thank you, host, for putting up this interview. i was also looking for the video, as i was in a conversation about gil with a bud of mine in australia. grew up on gil, and happy to share your page.
